Cams Cause, with support from Battlefield Blue, is conducting an online auction of a Replica Victoria Cross medal and a Remembrance Poppy. These magnificent pieces of art have been created by artist, Ron Davis, from lead collected from the battlefields of Europe. The Third Battle of Ypres, also known as the Battle of Passchendaele, was a campaign fought by the allies against the German Empire. The lead used in creating our Poppy and VC came from Ypres.
Cams Cause and Battlefield Blue intend to produce up to 100 handcrafted Replica Lead Victoria Cross Medals and up to 100 handcrafted Lead Remembrance Poppies. Ron is to be commended for his journey in transforming the lead used on a battlefield and in an offensive that caused crippling losses to create a beautiful and inspiring Remembrance Poppy. Ron’s attention to detail in creating a replica Victoria Cross Medal from the same lead is a wonderful acknowledgement of the courage and bravery exhibited by Australian Soldiers during WW1.
Funds raised will continue to support Commando Welfare and PTSD.
Battle of Passchendaele
The Battle of Passchendaele, horrific they said,
The worst ever seen as our hero’s lay dead.
Drowning in mud with Horses too,
Hell on earth they continued through,
Now rise, the lead shot that exploded from above,
This remembrance poppy recycled with love.
