We are thrilled to announce Sharlene Wood has joined the Cam’s Cause team as our Family Liaison Manager.
Sharlene’s brother, Sgt. Brett Wood MG DSM was tragically killed in 2011 by an improvised explosive device during a clearance operation in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Brett was a highly decorated founding member of the 2nd Commando Regiment. He was known as both a warrior with a strong offensive spirit, and a compassionate leader who always put the needs of others above all else.
As the Family Liaison Manager, Sharlene will work closely with the network and stakeholders to connect families with important initiatives and offer much needed support. “As a family member of the fallen I have a deep connection to the unit and take pride in honouring my brother’s legacy. Through my own experience I have a first-hand account of the calamity of war.
Whether referring to returning soldiers or ones lost on the battlefield, their families are often left in the wake as collateral damage. As a first world society I feel there is so much more we can be doing to assist these returning soldiers and families who are suffering.
I look forward to working with Cam’s Cause to raise awareness in this space and help place support where it’s needed most” – Sharlene Wood
